CDT Spinal Point 8 – 13 – £19,795 – £22,053

Carluke Development Trust is seeking an experienced gardener to support the delivery of the
community led ONECAN Growing Army project. The successful individual will have a great deal of
autonomy to:
• Carry out a varied range of gardening duties, requiring a minimum amount of supervision and use of
own initiative, to include:
o Creation and delivery of annual and seasonal growing plans.
o Maintenance of the Community Polytunnels.
o Maintenance of several community growing areas across the town and surrounding areas.
• Experience in the supervision and provision of training and learning support to temporary staff
recruited via government employability schemes, volunteers, and members of the community.
• The safe use and supervision of a wide range of tools, and gardening/horticultural machinery including
creation of risk assessment policies and protocols and ensuring they are kept in good and safe working
order.
• Experience of operating within Health and Safety legislations, specifically, ensuring a safe working
environment for everyone working, volunteering and or visiting the growing areas managed by CDT.
• Experience of working with other partner agencies in the support and training of local volunteers.
Experience/Qualifications
It is more important that our new team member has the passion to support our communities, but some of the
experiences, qualifications and skills set out below would be advantageous.
• Relevant qualifications including in Horticulture, Pesticide Spraying and community engagement.
• Experience in supporting, and training of volunteers and vulnerable groups ensuring the provision of
accessible and appropriate learning opportunities are available that increase the individual’s knowledge,
experience, skills and qualification levels in gardening and horticulture.
• Ability to use and supervise the use of a wide range of horticultural machinery and hand tools.
• Experience in the delivery of biodiversity and horticulture activities and events/workshops.
• Ability to work well as part of a team or individually with little supervision.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and community engagement skills
• Due to the nature of the post a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
