National Smile Month

National Smile Month is between 18 May and 18 June 2020 and is all about championing the benefits of having good oral health and promoting the value of a healthy smile.

Key messages for great oral health

During National Smile Month, please help us to promote the key messages for better oral health:

  • Brush your teeth for two minutes, last thing at night and at one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste.
  • Clean between your teeth with interdental brushes or floss every day.
  • Cut down on how much sugar you have, and how often you have it.

Accessing dental advice & support during COVID-19:

Dentists have been asked to stop all routine ‘face-to-face’ dental care. However, they are still able to give advice and issue antibiotics and pain killers if required and if necessary refer on for treatment in an urgent dental care centre. If their dental surgery isn’t open & they need urgent dental care they should call NHS 24 on 111.

If people don’t have a dentist they can see a full list of dentists on the NHS Inform website:

Snacking

Snacking can be a good part of a balanced diet, but it can also lead to us consuming more energy, sugar, fat or salt than we need.
