Running for the second year, our Tattie-Bogle competition was a great success with entries almost doubling those from the previous year. The competition ran between 1st – 4th October and we saw 39 amazing scarecrows displayed across Carluke, Braidwood and surrounding areas. The creativity and superb effort of everyone taking part was overwhelming and gave the local community much needed fun finding the scarecrows using the google map provided. It was lovely to see nurseries also taking part and we hope more schools will get involved in the future.
With such varied entries including a giant baby, a robot with flashing lights, some brilliant Hay-ray Potters and a wedding couple (made by a couple getting married at the time of the event – Congratulations!) it was very hard to choose winners. Judging ran in conjunction with the Carluke Development Trust with bonus points for using recycled materials. Prizes (generously donated) included 4 tickets to Deep Sea World, 4 tickets to Clyde Valley Family Park, a Lego bundle (Tesco), a riding lesson from Equitots and Tesco vouchers.£210 was raised (including donations from kind neighbours who didn’t take park but wanted to support the event).
All money going to the Braidwood Community Group Playpark Project, to raise funds towards a desperately needed new playpark. At a time when so many events have been cancelled our group were delighted to still be able to host this great community event. It was wonderful to see so many people taking part and brightening up our towns and villages with a bit of fun. Residents, old and young, have loved seeing the scarecrows scattered around and we hope the success of the event continues to grow in future years…
